Nurburgring: Homerace a nightmare

After some promising lap times during qualifying and practice sessions the race Sunday at the Nurburgring became a nightmare for Max. In the first race Max crashed already in the fourth lap but remained uninjured. He could finish the second race but ended up only at fifteenth place.

Max: "I am badly disappointed. We resolved to do a lot this weekend. Yesterday I was able to do lap times of 1:56 during a long run of 16 laps which corresponds to the race pace for fifth place today. In the first race I was already on eleventh position and I felt good on the bike but then the front wheel suddenly folded in without warning. I have no idea how that could happen, especially since I turned slightly slower in the curve as usual. The second race turned out to be a complete disaster. Starting from the first round I could not get on the throttle because the rear wheel spun like crazy. It was a shame, especially here at my home race. Sorry for all my many fans. I felt like an idiot who has forgotten how to ride over night. My crew has checked the data recording after the race and confirmed my statements. We suspect that the tire was the problem ... but today I was mostly shocked by the tragic news from Misano. My deepest condolences and sympathy to the family and friends of Shoya Tomizawa!"
