2011: Max on MZ in Moto 2
Max will start on MZ in the MOTO2 World Championship next season. Following very positive discussions with Martin Wimmer, a one-year contract with the traditional brand MZ was concluded on Thursday evening. In the course of the engagement of Max MZ will be restructured. The technical management will be taken over by Marco Nicotari, who is bringing a lot of experience with his company Pro Ride-Racing.
Max: "I am very happy that the contract with MZ Racing has been signed. After this season which was very disappointing for everyone involved, I look ahead positively now. I know that many of my fans would have liked if I had stayed in the Superbike Championship but there was no reasonable and competitive solution for me at all. I have celebrated my greatest successes there and think back gladly to those days. Maybe our paths cross again one day. Now a new chapter starts. With MZ we have the opportunity to construct the bike around me. The technical management will be taken over by Marco Nicotari who will be also my crew chief. Next week after the GP at Valencia, I'll ride the MOTO2 MZ for the first time. Then we want to analyze where we stand and in which direction we need to work. To me it is important that we have a family atmosphere in the team. A German team-mate would certainly be a good solution but that's not my decision. From the MZ factory to the Sachsenring it's just about 30 kilometers, my home is in the middle. I hope I can help brushing up the image of MZ again. It would be great if it goes upwards there now. I have a close emotional bond to MZ. My father has already ridden on these bikes. Formerly the old MZ factory bikes were standing in our living room and it was a childhood dream to race on a MZ."
